Tinker Story Development

Emily and I have spent the summer developing our story for our short film Tinker. We have gone through many different ideas and many different characters, all revolving around a young girl receiving a toy each year on her birthday which then leads her on a journey. Where that journey ends and what the over arching story is we are yet to figure out. One idea was that her absent father sent her gifts every year on her birthday which sends her on a journey to find him. Another idea was that the girl's mother was sending the toys, pretending they were from her father so that she would not know he had passed. I think our story still has a long way to go, and the plot will need to be simplified greatly whilst still telling an emotional, heartwarming story that will connect with audiences of all ages. Once we figure out the message we are wanting to get across, the characters and ending will be a lot easier to decide upon.
