So I've been struggling quite a bit with getting everything to work in Maya. I successfully imported the camera from Nuke and Transformer model into Maya (with the exception of a few camera glitches), I've figured out that I need to turn my live action video scene into an image sequence (this took me a while to figure out because it wasn't showing up in the render view), but then realised that it shows up differently in every renderer so I could have actually just used the video image plane, and then found out that when I render out the final I don't actually need the image plane at all because you can just use a merge node in Nuke to put the 3D model render and the live action plate together. In fact all you needed originally from Nuke was the camera movements! I've learnt that I need to add a polygon plane and as a ground plane so that the Transformer model has something to cast shadows on, and that the Transformer and shadows will probably need to be rendered separately.. Anyway it's all getting a lot more complicated than I thought it would but I'm definitely learning a lot which is great!
