Getting closer! Today I tried to figure out if there was any easier way I could be tackling these next few steps of rendering different passes out of Maya. I started by just rendering the 3D Transformer model out with the image plane behind it (which resulted in really horrible colouring and just overall looking bad), but I then I could render the 3D model and shadows all in one go, I mean why not? But the shadows beneath the Transformer then just didn't look dark enough and making them darker made the shadows on the Transformer look too dark! So I've come to the conclusion that yes I must do separate renders :( The reason I've been so avidly avoiding this is because the model, which I got off the internet, is really badly named and labeled and to select all the polygons so that they I can turn off the visibility for the shadow render would take a lifetime, but I'm just going to have to figure that out! Currently also annoyed at the fact that when the car is rendered out the edges are all jaggedy but hoping I can find a fix or hide that when I composite everything together.
